Mike Stewart is a DISCOVER Class of 2014 graduate, grew up in Sellersburg, and currently lives in New Albany. He is the President/CEO of Voluforms, and has served on the Leadership Southern Indiana Board of Directors since 2015!
Please describe your professional journey—where you started to where you are now.
I took a job in printing over the summers while in school. I did an internship in sales with Kentucky Lithographing Co. The sale job worked out great. After the company was sold, I left and started Voluforms with my father in 1984. With hard work and lots of blessings, it has provided my clients, employees and family beyond my expectations.
What was your LeadershipSI experience like? Why did you get involved?
I have been in many boards in our area. I was also President of Jeffersonville Rotary and Chaired the Southern Indiana United Way. I was asked about the DISCOVER class and honestly wasn’t sure I would get a lot out of the class; however, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
What are some favorite moments with LeadershipSI?
It was refreshing to learn more about many organizations and the history of our area. More important was hearing fresh perspectives from members of our class from different backgrounds and ages. I enjoyed making new friends with my classmates, some of which I am very close to.
Why is LeadershipSI important to the region and its professionals?
Leadership helps unify our community. It allows us to focus on goals to improve the area and make it a better place to raise our families and entice new quality leaders and company to consider Southern Indiana as a home.
We all want to leave an economically strong, safe and healthy community for our children and future generations of our families.
Do you have any advice for current Leadership S I participants?
Use this time to learn how you can make our community better. Leave the class with goals for you to personally do that. Stay in tune with Leadership Southern Indiana and find your interest in making a positive impact on our area.
