The Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana is seeking volunteers to assist with staffing during what are called “White Flag” Events. These are nights when the temperature is expected to drop below 35 degrees and stay there for 5 hours. This year the Homeless Coalition is coordinating Southern Indiana’s White Flag event and adequate staffing is needed. The Salvation Army on Green Valley Rd. in New Albany has agreed to their space and will provide beds, etc. The Coalition has made arrangements for transportation to the site for those needing a place to stay.
What the Coalition needs are enough volunteers each day from December 12 to April 1st. Not all days between now and the first of April will be White Flag days. Most occur in January and February – last year there were 75 such events. Staffing is approximately 12 people, including one “Site Manager” who would stay the entire evening and teams of others working 4 – 5 hour shifts. Training for Site Managers will be December 10.
